Our Story: How We Became One Of The Top Flight Schools In The USA
The UND Aerospace Foundation Phoenix Flight Training Center has a rich and prestigious history that can be traced back to the Department of Aviation at the University of North Dakota (UND), founded in 1968 by John Odegard. Under his stewardship, the UND Department of Aviation quickly evolved to become The John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Sciences – the first aviation training program of its kind to be accredited in the country.
In 1997, UND expanded its aviation education offerings beyond its North Dakota campus and established the UND Aerospace Foundation (UNDAF) Phoenix Flight Training Center. This strategic move brought the renowned UND aviation curriculum and training expertise to the vibrant aviation community of Phoenix, Arizona.
With its establishment, UNDAF Phoenix Flight Training Center quickly became one of the top flight schools in the USA and beyond. Today, our Phoenix flight training center proudly carries forward the UND Aerospace tradition of excellence in aviation education. We uphold the same rigorous standards and commitment to producing highly skilled pilots and aviation professionals.
Why Choose UND?
With more than 25 years of meeting and exceeding industry standards in collegiate flight training and aerospace learning, UND Aerospace Foundation Phoenix has garnered a reputation for producing highly qualified aviators across the globe.
But our success is not just based on our passion and commitment to excellence. Here are some of the other reasons why we are one of the top flight schools in Arizona:
Rigorous Flight Training Programs
As the foremost flight training provider in the Valley, our aviation program is second-to-none. We are committed to providing comprehensive flight training under FAA part 141 and part 61 regulations to ensure our students have the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed.
Our unique student-centered curriculum, developed in collaboration with Boeing, the FAA, world-class airline pilots, and multiple industry-leading airlines, allows us to provide our students with personalized flight instruction and an unparalleled educational experience.
Whether you are looking for a career change or to start your formal education, the UND Aerospace Foundation offers a variety of pilot training programs to meet your needs and help you fulfill your dreams.
One of the most important considerations when choosing a flight school is the location, as it can seriously impact your flight training timeline and consequently, the cost of acquiring a pilot license.
Based out of the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport in Arizona, our flight school benefits from favorable weather conditions and a thriving aviation community. The Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport alone hosts over 40 companies and is currently developing as an international aerospace center with aircraft maintenance, modification, testing, and pilot training.
Nicknamed the “mecca” for flight training in the United States, Arizona also provides a diverse flying terrain, including desert landscapes, mountain ranges, majestic canyons, and busy airspace, offering students a comprehensive training experience.
Modern Aircraft Fleet And State-Of-The-Art Facilities
At the UND Aerospace Foundation, we pride ourselves in being home to advanced flight simulators and state-of-the-art aircraft fleet – equipped with the latest avionics and safety features. Our aircraft undergo regular maintenance and inspections to ensure their reliability and performance.
Additionally, our modern training facility is carefully designed to provide a conducive learning environment, featuring dedicated classrooms and a supportive faculty.
Industry-Leading Aviation Safety Practices
Safety is our top priority at the UND Aerospace Foundation. We adhere to strict safety policies and procedures to ensure the well-being of our students and instructors. We are the only flight school with a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approved Safety Management System (SMS) that operates at the same level as major airlines.
Our personalized SMS encourages proactive identification of potential risks and implementation of risk control measures before any incidents occur. It also promotes a positive safety culture where students, instructors, and staff can openly report safety issues or concerns.
This industry-leading approach not only demonstrates our unparalleled commitment to safety throughout every aspect of flight training but also helps adequately prepare our students for real-world challenges.
