If you've been dreaming of starting your journey towards becoming a commercial pilot for airlines, then you've come to the right place. By joining UND, you're setting yourself up to receive the top-notch education, training, and certificates needed to earn this eligibility.

Do You Want to Be an Airline Pilot?

What Is Airline Pilot Training?

This pilot training is a comprehensive program designed to provide students with the skills, knowledge, and experience they need to fly commercial airplanes safely and efficiently. This flight training isn't just about learning to operate an aircraft but understanding the intricate details of aviation rules, regulations, and the dynamic nature of the skies. To become an airline pilot, one must not only complete this specialized training but also obtain an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) license, the highest level of pilot certification. This license attests to the pilot's advanced expertise and capacity to operate in a commercial aviation environment.

Before receiving an ATP license, there are other types of pilot licenses you must obtain first, each with its own set of FAA requirements, limitations, and uses:

Private Pilot License (PPL): This is often the starting point for many pilots. Holders of a private pilot certificate can fly for personal and recreational purposes but cannot be compensated for piloting services.

Commercial Pilot License (CPL): A step above the PPL, commercial pilot training allows pilots to be financially compensated for flying. While they can work for major airlines, commercial pilots typically cannot act as a captain or first officer for an airline's scheduled flights.

Multi-Engine Pilot License (MEPL): This additional rating allows pilots to operate aircraft with multiple engines, which often includes larger and more complex aircraft. Most commercial airlines use multi-engine aircraft, making this a vital certification to advance towards an Airline Transport Pilot license.

As student pilots progress from rookies to seasoned airline pilots, the starting point involves thorough training and education to gain these prerequisite certifications. At UND Aerospace Foundation, we offer the best training programs in the country that provide the foundational knowledge and experience required to receive these certifications and eventually move on to obtain an ATP license. As such, airline training stands out as the most intensive and rewarding, preparing airline pilots for the demands and responsibilities of commercial aviation.
